How to Find a Good Therapist or Counselor

Top 8 Qualities to Look for When Picking a Psychotherapist

  • Connection – Research has shown that the relationship between client and therapist is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. Notice if you feel connected to the therapist and consider exploring how important the therapist feels a connection is.
  • Trust – Is this therapist someone you feel you can or will be able to trust?

Psychotherapy for the Helping Professions

Help for those who help others

If you are a counselor, psychotherapist, or coach there may be times when you find it draining to take care of your clients. It's not unusual to wonder what it would be like to be the client – to have someone you can trust who will deeply understand you and be there for you. Hopefully, this is what you provide to your clients, but many helping professionals haven't experienced it for themselves.

Psychotherapy & Counseling

Here are my fundamental beliefs about therapy and counseling:

  • Feeling understood and supported by your therapist is a key to successful therapy
  • Feeling too much, too little, or being unsure of what you are feeling can be a significant factor in many problems and a caring, attentive therapist can help you to manage these feelings
  • There are understandable reasons that we do what we do and avoid what we avoid and, as your therapist, I can help you to understand and reconsider these beliefs
